What to Do If Your Luggage Is Damaged?
If your luggage is damaged, it’s important to take immediate action.
Report the damage to the airline right away, at the airport before leaving the baggage claim area. Locate the Baggage Service Office, typically located near the baggage carousels in the baggage hall. Once there, show your damaged bag to make a detailed report of the damage to your checked bag.
Make sure to have your passport and boarding pass ready. Complete the report at the Baggage Service Office, where the staff will guide you on the next steps. It is highly likely that Transavia will cover the cost of repairing your bag. In the event that it cannot be repaired, Transavia will arrange for a replacement.

Damaged Baggage Compensation
Transavia is responsible for any damage to your checked baggage.
You can claim compensation up to €1300, which is based on the value of the damaged bag and will cover the cost of purchasing a new one of equal value. It is crucial to file a claim in order to receive compensation from Transavia. The airline will provide payment through a bank transfer, and you are not obligated to accept Transavia vouchers or coupons.
Note that Transavia is not liable to fully compensate for the value of valuable items such as electronics, art, or jewelry if they are packed in checked baggage. Only the amount specified in the Montreal Convention and its Conditions of Carriage will be reimbursed. Therefore, it is advisable not to pack such items in your checked baggage.
Additionally, Transavia will not provide compensation for damage that resulted from a defect in the bag, and they will not take responsibility for any prior damage such as minor tears, scratches, or broken zippers that were caused by overpacking or normal handling.
Reimbursement of Expenses
If your bag sustains damage during travel, please note that no reimbursement will be provided for any expenses incurred.
However, in the event of lost or delayed baggage, you are eligible to claim compensation for essential items that require replacement.
This compensation is commonly referred to as delayed baggage compensation. To ensure a smooth process, remember to retain all receipts and submit them, along with your claim, to Transavia within 21 days of receiving your lost baggage.
Please be aware that this policy solely pertains to situations involving lost or delayed baggage, and does not cover cases of damage.
Is Travel Insurance Necessary?
The answer is both yes and no.
On one hand, when flying with Transavia, your bag and its safe delivery are generally covered by the Montreal Convention, making it possible to travel without additional travel insurance.
However, on the other hand, having a comprehensive travel insurance policy can prove highly advantageous. For instance, if your baggage sustains damage, a good insurance policy can expedite the compensation process. Once you report the damage, reaching out to your travel insurance company will provide you with guidance on the subsequent steps. Your insurance might cover the cash value or the cost of your bag, but you will likely need documentation from the Baggage Service Office to support your claim.
It’s crucial to recognize that not all insurance policies include coverage for baggage damage. Thus, conducting thorough research beforehand is advisable to avoid stress and unforeseen surprises.
Travel Prepared
Being prepared for unforeseen circumstances is always a wise decision when traveling.
It is recommended to pack spare clothes and undergarments in your carry-on in case your checked baggage is lost or damaged. Additionally, it is important to avoid storing valuable items, cash, medications, documents, and credit cards in your checked bag, as these items may be lost or damaged if your bag sustains significant damage.
Consider packing a packable or foldable duffle bag in your luggage. This type of bag can be useful if your main luggage is severely damaged and you need to transfer your belongings. Alternatively, if you need extra space in your main bag during your trip, the duffle bag can accommodate any additional items.
